My name is Jenelle Ashaki Patrick ‘aka’ Ashaki Jenelle and I am a Crochet Fashion Designer, as my passion for creating stems from all things crochet. I learned the basics of crochet from my mother, at the young age of six and I quickly went on to teach myself more advanced stitches, pattern reading and writing, knitting, and other crafting styles. I believe that creating always came to me with ease, due to both of my parents being creatives. In 2009, I decided to take crochet more seriously. My pieces were captured in photoshoots and featured in fashion shows and as a result, these activities began to bring more recognition within the Brooklyn, NY communities and the surrounding areas. In 2016, my team and I hosted our own Carnival Fancy Mas Band within my homeland of Grenada, West Indies which incorporated crochet in the headpieces, bras, and accessory pieces, and those costumes were also featured in two of the 2016 Carnival Musical Artist’s performances. Since then, I have rebranded and turned my craft into a business, formerly known as CNCCreations and in January 2021, Ashaki By Design, LLC was birthed. The name of my brand signifies the beauty of design, passion, and the freedom of expression that is produced through my love for crochet. Overall, Ashaki By Design is an extension of who I am and what I represent. At Ashaki By Design, I specialize in “hooking” clothing items, outwear, and fashion accessories that allows individuals of all genders to express themselves through the art of crochet.
